PokéBonk multipliers are derived from the public client’s type relationships: 2× becomes 1.35×, 0.5× becomes 0.8×, and classic immunity becomes 0.5×. Dual-type values multiply and clamp from 0.4× to 1.8×. Snapshot: v0.7.3; check the current game after patches.

What should you know before planning around Gyarados?
Gyarados is the final member of the Magikarp → Gyarados reference family. Its defining numbers are 125 Attack, 60 Special Attack and 540 total base stats. Those values make its physical-versus-special split much more pronounced than Victreebel’s. This is a reading of the stored species record, not a measured ranking of playable characters. The important first check is whether your current League actually offers this family and what its live move cards say.
The Pokédex counters guide explains why seeing a species, capturing its family and having a playable League member are different things. This entry does not establish a capture location, a guaranteed drop or a current unlock task. If Gyarados is absent from your roster, a reference evolution level alone is not an unlock instruction.
How much changes when Magikarp evolves?
| Reference stat | Magikarp | Gyarados | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP | 20 | 95 | +75 |
| Attack | 10 | 125 | +115 |
| Defense | 55 | 79 | +24 |
| Special Attack | 15 | 60 | +45 |
| Special Defense | 20 | 100 | +80 |
| Speed | 80 | 81 | +1 |
| Total | 200 | 540 | +340 |
The largest change is Attack, followed by Special Defense and HP. Speed changes by only one point. That distinction matters when interpreting an evolution: the reference record supports a major change in offensive and defensive stats, but gives little basis for expecting a large movement improvement. It also does not tell you how Pokebonk converts a species stat into a live movement value.
Gyarados’s record stores level 20 as the reference evolution transition from Magikarp. It does not store an evolution item for this transition. These fields describe the family relationship used by the reference viewer. Before spending resources, check the current game’s evolution panel for its actual trigger, cost and availability. No new evolution run was performed for this editorial update.
Why is Electric the standout incoming matchup?
The type panel above uses Pokebonk’s displayed relationship model: a single weakness contributes 1.35, a resistance 0.8, and the relationship called an immunity in the main series contributes 0.5. Contributions multiply for dual types and are clamped between 0.4 and 1.8. Consequently, main-series descriptions such as “four-times weak” and “immune” are misleading here.
| Incoming attack | Calculation for Water / Flying | Displayed multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| Electric | 1.35 × 1.35, capped | 1.8× |
| Rock | 1 × 1.35 | 1.35× |
| Ground | 1 × 0.5 | 0.5× |
| Ice | 0.8 × 1.35 | 1.08× |
| Grass | 1.35 × 0.8 | 1.08× |
Electric reaches the upper cap, while Ground remains reduced damage rather than zero damage. Ice and Grass are particularly easy to misread: multiplying 0.8 by 1.35 gives 1.08, so they are slightly above neutral in this model. They should not silently disappear from a list of increased-damage matchups. The type chart and mechanics guide provide the model and its limitations; these calculated values do not include every live combat modifier.
Which move records deserve a closer look?
The stored learnset contains Waterfall (physical Water, reference power 80), Aqua Tail (physical Water, power 90), Hydro Pump (special Water, power 110) and Hurricane (special Flying, power 110). The higher printed power on a special move does not establish that it will outperform a physical move on a species with 125 Attack and 60 Special Attack.
Those are reference move fields, not Pokebonk cooldowns or damage-per-second measurements. A useful comparison must inspect the actual survivor card’s class, damage, cooldown, projectile behavior and affected upgrade tags. Accuracy and level fields in a reference learnset also cannot be substituted for live unlock timing. Browse the moves directory to distinguish move descriptions from measured run performance.
The record also lists Crunch and Ice Fang, which explains why the reference learnset is broader than Water and Flying alone. It does not prove that either appears as an offered choice in your current run. A four-move recommendation assembled from this list would imply availability that has not been checked. Instead, use the build planner for the options the current game actually presents.
What should you verify in a real run?
Start with the League selection screen and record whether Gyarados is selectable. Then open its initial and ultimate move cards and note their exact names and classes. At evolution, record the condition shown by the interface rather than assuming level 20 applies. For a matchup check, compare the same incoming attack under the same difficulty, equipment and active effects; a single damage number cannot isolate typing.
This checklist deliberately separates three questions: what the reference says, what the menu offers, and what combat produces. A screenshot of an enemy Gyarados answers none of the roster or damage questions by itself. For an example of the evidence needed to document a survivor kit, see Diglett’s observed entry .
Where do these numbers come from?
Species number #130, Water / Flying typing, dimensions 6.5 m / 235 kg, base stats and learnset come from the repository’s public-client reference snapshot, originally documented against v0.7.2. The snapshot is older than current releases. This page was edited on October 30, 2026 to interpret those records and correct the matchup explanation; that date does not claim a fresh in-game test.
The visible sprite is credited to PMD SpriteCollab under CC BY-NC 4.0, as recorded in the existing asset attribution. That credit is a source statement, not a claim of commercial permission.
